The forerunner of the hippy movement.
The South family was here for 16 years.
They raised three children, living off the land during the Depression in the 1930's on this mountain top in what is now in the middle of Anza-Borrego Desert State Park near Borrego Springs, CA. This site is straight up a narrow winding one mile walking trail from the valley floor. Not much left except crumbling walls, a sun dial, bed springs and a cistern for catching what little water falls in the desert.
The Anza-Borrego Desert State Park’s Visitor Center shows an excellent movie with authentic photos taken by this family while living on this mountain top.
