22 Jan. 2010 -- Overnight on "The Rock".
This boat is called "The Rock". We overnighted on this boat out of the town of Paihia for two days of kayaking, snorkeling, fishing, shooting. Had dinner and breakfast. A good time.
New Zealand's flag has the Southern Cross.
We snorkeled around this island in "The Bay of Islands".
Doug getting suited up with a wet suit for snorkeling. The water was cold so the wet suit was nice to have.
Janet is getting ready to hit the water.
Shooting off the fantail using an air rifle aiming for the target which was a towed duck decoy. Hitting the target you got a free beer. Neither Janet or Doug got so much as a taste.
Doug did win the fishing contest and a beer by catching the first, the most, and the most unique. It was only the second time the staff had seen a Kingfish caught off "The Rock."
Night kayaking to see the phosphorus in the water. Each time a stroke was taken or we put our hands in the water it would light up a neon green. We also went out to see the stars including The Southern Cross, which was visible for a short time but soon was obscured by clouds.

This is Janet in rough seas. We took the kayaks out for a long paddle. We got pitched around but we enjoyed it tremendously.
Keeping an eye on those rocks!
Our big red boat, "The Rock" taken from the top of one of the islands where gun emplacements were dug in during WW II.
